Winter plans to do in Barcelona

Barcelona is a city that enjoys exceptional weather throughout the year. It is in a privileged situation on the Mediterranean coast. That is why winters are not as hard as in other cities and countries in northern Europe, and there are a lot of winter plans to do here.

Admittedly, in relation to the rest of Europe, it is a privilege to have an average of 12ºC during the coldest three months of the year. Moreover, the privilege is such that it’s not surprising that in the middle of the winter season the thermometer reaches 20 ºC, although it is not usual.

The main advantage of this exceptional climatic situation is to enjoy outdoor leisure throughout the year. What other European country can take pride in having, in the middle of January, the terraces of the bars full of people enjoying the midday sun?

And not only at noon. Given the good geographical situation of the city, in Barcelona we can enjoy natural light for a few hours longer than in our neighboring northern countries. However, after all, winter is winter, and that is why we want to suggest the best traditional plans that this city offers you in its coldest season.

The first perfect plan for winter, how could it be otherwise, is to go out to have some delicious churros with chocolate. If there is anything left over to Barcelona, there are establishments where you can enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate to warm up and a cone of churros for a snack. We recommend you visit Petritxol Street, in the Barri Gòtic. The Granja Dulcinea and the Granja La Pallaresa may be the greatest exponents of this sweet custom. Other establishments such as the Granja Viader, Casa Ametller, located next to Casa Batlló, or Xurreria Sant Andreu are also good options.

If we are looking for a slightly more cultural plan than going to eat churros, we can enjoy the day visiting museums. Barcelona has more than 50 museums, and all of them of great cultural contribution. We recommend the Museu Picasso, the Fundació Joan Miró or the MNAC if you are looking for artistic museums. The FC Barcelona museum is perfect for those interested in sports, or the CosmoCaixa if you love science and/or go with children.

If you are more interested in cinema and theater than in museums, we also have perfect suggestions for you. In Barcelona you can choose between 50 theaters and 25 cinemas where you will surely find some play or movie that you will love.
